CMCC Event for Environmental Protection
--Green Olympics: Environmental Education Book for Middle School Students into Campuses

The event for celebrating the first book of environmental education for middle school students—Green Olympics: Environmental Education Book for Middle School Students was kicked off on July 13th, 2007, the 6th anniversary of Beijing winning Olympic bid held in the Second High School attached to Beijing Normal University, initiated by China Mobile Communications Corporation and All-China Environment Federation.

More than 500 participants attended the commencement ceremony including vice Chairman Luo Haocai of CPPCC, Zhou Jian, deputy Director of the State Environmental Protection Administration of China, leaders from China Organizing Committee of Olympic Games, the Ministry of Education, All-China Environment Federation and CMCC as well as students. Mr. Sha Yuejia, vice President of CMCC gives an address at the ceremony.

Environment protection has been listed by the International Olympic Committee as one of three most significant pillars of Olympics, and the other two are Sports and Culture. In line with Chinese actual situation, a concept of “Green Olympics, High-tech Olympics and People's Olympics” was put forward for Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The book Green Olympics: Environmental Education Book for Middle School Students is dedicatedly edited focusing on green Olympics with much interest and knowledge. The Agenda of Olympic Games for the 21st Century highlights that the youth are closely related to the environment, development and sports and education plays essential role in modern Olympic Games. Young people should enjoy themselves in the sports competition and learn from it, becoming leader and practitioner of a peaceful world. Hosting the Olympic Games is not only the sports event but requires educating the children with meaning of hosting Green Olympics in China as well. They will learn from this book that the environmental protection consciousness generates much more from their own behavior than from the theoretical books. This book vividly illustrates the Olympic facilitates, construction of stadiums and environmental issues related to the Olympics. It is the first easy book on environment protection for high school students to read in their spare time and also a long expectation of these students.

Leaders of China Organizing Committee of Olympic Games, Ministry of Education and the State Environmental Protection Administration of China also give speeches at the ceremony, fully appreciating the significance of this book. Meanwhile, high school students of Beijing released a Proposal of Environment Protection to all high school students in China.

The event of Green Olympics: Environmental Education Book for Middle School Students entering into campus plans to donate 120,000 books to the high school students of Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang, Qingdao, Tianjin and Qinhuangdao where the Olympic Games is to be held, and an activity of “Green Olympics: Soliciting Articles of Environment Protection among Youth” will be held. The whole event will finish at the end of October.
