People at work
China Mobile is one of nine large, state-owned enterprises to join with 38 companies owned by the Beijing municipal government that have agreed to employ staff of the Beijing Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games (BOCOG) after the Games.
At the signing of the Post-Games Employee Allocation Agreement, BOCOG Deputy Secretary-General Zhang Ziwei said BOCOG had pooled and trained many talented staff who knew how to manage comprehensive and large international sports events.
The program for their future employment would play a positive role in retaining and encouraging BOCOG personnel to ensure the success of the Beijing Olympics, he said.
Bringing People together
Ten families – five from China and five from abroad – won an unforgettable week-long tour of Beijing and Olympic co-host cities Hong Kong and Qingdao to mark the one-year countdown to the Games.
They were chosen from among 12,000 families from 62 countries and regions to apply for the “Olympic Families Tour Beijing” program sponsored by China Mobile and the official website of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
The families wrote blogs, which received a total of 14 million on-line votes from Internet users.
“Thanks to the campaign, our ten families from different countries have been brought together to become one family transcending the language, national and cultural divisions under the Olympic rings,” said a member of the Greenlink family from Germany.
Music for the People
China Mobile has supported a series of music events for the Beijing Olympic Games and helped provide them to the public, including:
- Action film star Jackie Chan’s version of “We Are Ready”, the theme song of the one-year countdown to the 29th Olympiad. Chan’s song was made available for download on our wireless music platform. Chan said: “Speaking loud this sentence (We Are Ready) on behalf of the Chinese people holds many great meanings. Being part of it (the Games) in and of itself is a great pleasure and honor.”
- Five great songs to promote Olympic voluntary work to mark the 300-day countdown to the Games. The songs – Smiling Beijing; I am a Star; Let’s Take Part in It; Shall We Go Together; and The Youth Olympics – were composed by professional musicians and members of the public. They praise volunteers and encourage passion for the Olympics. China Mobile helped launch a download program – bj.12530.com – for users to make the songs their cell phone ringtones.
- More than a dozen Olympic songs were performed by about 20 artists, including Jay Chou and Emil Chau, to mark the 200-day countdown to the Games. China Mobile subscribers could select an Olympic song as their ringtone.
