Press Releases
China Mobile is aiming to ensure that visitors to China – as well as the athletes and Games officials – have a winning experience during the 2008 Olympics.
As an official partner of the Beijing Olympics, we are in a unique position to offer you champion services during the Olympics and the Paralympics.
When you get connected with China Mobile, your cell phone will be your passport to the Games, allowing you to access to the official Olympic website and to receive Olympic news and results. You can even download Olympic music.
Our range of innovative services includes unique new language and melody recognition technology, which can provide information to visitors in a variety of languages. Users simply speak their enquiry to receive Olympic results and information on venues, the weather and traffic, as well as restaurants and entertainment spots. It can even tell you the name of a favourite tune if you hum a few bars.
Working with major telecommunications operators in five continents, we have reinforced our international roaming services and are pleased to offer customers of participating overseas operators a backup handset and SIM card in the event their original is lost or damaged.
If you use a GSM phone, you will be able to pick up a local SIM card, and we can rent out phones to Japanese and South Korean users.
In the Olympic cities, we can offer mobile broadband video transmission, immediate photo transmission and wireless information. Our extensive Wi-Fi service will allow wireless connections through phones and laptops.
Tips on using your cell phone in China:
- Always remember to prefix a fixed-line number in China with the area code, and always use the country and area code when dialing abroad.
- International call charges are levied on calls between two phones using international roaming services even if they are in the same country. Check with your regular operator for more information and remember to initiate the service before leaving home.
- Always use the country code when sending short messages abroad.
- Check with your regular operator to see if an SMS service is available. Some operators provide only one-way international text message services that will allow you to send, but not receive messages.
- If you have a GPRS international roaming service, check with your regular operator whether you can use it in China.
- If you’re planning to buy a SIM card in China, make sure your phone is a compatible GSM/GPRS 900/1800 dual-frequency handset. Check out the range of products and services here.
And don’t forget that you can always call our Beijing customer service hotline for more information. The number is (+8610) 10086.
