China Mobile has honored lineman Liu Jianqiu, who died while trying to restore communications links to areas badly hit by the May 12 earthquake in Sichuan Province.
Liu, who worked in our Chengdu branch, was struck by rocks in a landslide as he and his colleagues were trying to repair a cable in Lixian County on May 16. He was taken to hospital, but died of his injuries a day later. He was 36 years old.

The Guergou-Lixian line, on which Liu was working, was cut by an aftershock on the afternoon of May 16, after it had been repaired following the 8.0-magnitude earthquake on May 12.
Liu had shown great leadership in the aftermath of the disaster. He had led a team of 36 linemen to repair the cable connection between Maerkang, Lixian and Wenchuan, restoring communications to the area at the epicentre of the earthquake.
Everyone at China Mobile will remember the example set by Liu and his sacrifice.
