The outpouring of sympathy for the victims of the massive earthquake that has devastated Sichuan Province has moved China’s citizens and corporations to acts of great charity.

China Mobile’s board of directors has approved a 15-million yuan donation to disaster relief, while China Mobile employees have donated their money and their blood.

China Mobile has also organized donation hotlines linking five charities to subscribers who can donate one or two yuan simply by sending a text message. The charities, their text message numbers and their internet addresses are listed below.

China Mobile is also sparing no expense to get mobile communications in the stricken area working normally. Mobile base stations have been moved into the region from other provinces. China Mobile engineers have been flown into the worst hit areas with satellite phones, and emergency communication centers have been set up throughout Sichuan.

The day after the earth struck 200 employees at China Mobile’s Beijing headquarters have signed in to donate blood. Employees also opened their wallets as more than 100,000 yuan was collected in half a day.

All across China, subscribers have flooded China Mobile’s text messaging network with their donations.

China Mobile is cooperating with five charities that are providing direct emergency relief to the victims.

To make a donations send a TEXT message to any of the numbers below. In the message type the numbers one or two to indicate if you want to donate one or two yuan. Send as many text messages as you like. China Mobile will donate the cost of sending the message directly to the charity.
